Corporate/Financial Controller

Our client, is an entrepreneurial and growing Real Estate and infrastructure investment company based in Washington D.C. and owned by a European Real Estate Group with over 70 years of experience developing and constructing industrial, data center, commercial, multifamily and mixed-use projects. They are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Financial Controller to oversee and manage the financial operations of their US real estate company. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance, ensuring the company’s financial health and growth. This role requires a deep understanding of real estate financial management, investment analysis, and regulatory compliance. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Financial Management: 
  • Oversee daily financial operations, including cash flow management, accounts payable/receivable, and general ledger activities. 
  • Assist in planning for the monthly expenses, payroll and 401(k) contributions. 
  • QuickBooks reconciliations. 
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with real estate industry standards. 
  • Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

       2. Budgeting & Forecasting: 

  • Develop and manage the company’s annual budget and forecasts. 
  • Monitor and report on budget performance, company’s capital structure and provide recommendations for adjustments.
  • Perform variance analysis and ensure financial objectives are met. 

        3. Financial Reporting & Compliance: 

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax filings and financial disclosures. 
  • Manage internal controls and implement best practices to safeguard company assets. 

        4. Real Estate Investment Analysis: 

  • Analyze and report on the financial performance of real estate investments, including ROI, IRR, and other key metrics. 
  • Provide financial insights and support to the acquisition, development, and sales teams. 
  • Evaluate potential investment opportunities, conducting financial due diligence and risk analysis. 

       5. Strategic Planning: 

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to support strategic initiatives and long-term growth objectives. 
  • Participate in the development of financial models for new business ventures or property developments. 
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA required. 
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a financial management role within the real estate industry. 
  • Strong knowledge of real estate financial structures, investment analysis, and accounting principles. 
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI) and financial modeling tools (e.g., Excel). 
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with real estate development, property management, or investment firms. 
  • Strong leadership abilities and experience managing a finance team. 
  • Knowledge of REITs and other real estate investment vehicles.
