Sr Vice President, Operations

Company Overview

Our client, a well-established Washington, DC area based industrial equipment services company seeks a talented, seasoned operations leader to join the organization. By leveraging over three decades of providing safe, innovative waste and recycling equipment solutions, this organization continues to deliver a long-term, client/customer centric experience while driving a strategic, national expansion effort.

Position Overview

Reporting to the partners, the SVP of Operations will be a key member of the senior leadership team with accountability and responsibility for promoting the Company’s mission, vision, and values to successfully shape the organization’s operational strategy, optimize processes, drive growth, and ultimately ensure an environment built upon high standards of customer satisfaction, retention, and safety. By demonstrating broad leadership qualities, the SVP of Operations will provide significant input, direction, and ultimately be responsible for ensuring all business functions align with the Company’s long-term vision and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Collaborate with the senior executive team to develop the company’s long-term strategic vision.
  • Lead the execution of operational plans in line with the company’s overall goals and growth strategies.
  • Set operational goals and KPIs to measure and track performance, ensuring alignment with long-term objectives.

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee all operational aspects of the business, including key product services, supply chain and vendor relations, and logistics.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  • Create and monitor KPIs and operational metrics to ensure continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards related to safety, training, and operation.

Technology & Process Improvement

  • Implement and maintain the latest technology and software solutions to enhance operational efficiency in distribution and equipment repair.
  • Continuously assess and optimize workflows, processes, and procedures to drive operational efficiency.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing operations team, including logistics managers, project managers, repair technicians, and support staff.
  • Foster a collaborative culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Ensure proper training programs are in place for all staff members to maintain high service standards and customer service.
  • Lead the talent acquisition process, including all staffing efforts, work with the leadership team regarding compensation negotiations, drafting of offer letters and onboarding all new employees.
  • Negotiate and ensure that all benefit renewals are completed on time.

Financial Management

  • Oversee operational budget, manage, and measure financial performance across all departments.
  • Resource allocation to ensure cost effective operations and maximize profitability.
  • Work closely with the finance team to ensure accurate forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting.

Customer Service & Relationship Management

  • Ensure a high level of customer service is maintained across all departments.
  • Address any operational issues that may affect customer satisfaction and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Build strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and clients to support business operations.
  • Monitor customer feedback and continuously refine processes to improve customer experience.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key vendors and suppliers, ensuring reliable supply chains for parts, materials, and services.
  • Negotiate contracts to secure favorable terms and pricing.

Quality and Safety Assurance

  • Ensure all operations comply with relevant safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and implement robust safety programs to minimize risk and ensure a safe working environment for all employees.

Key Qualifications:

  • Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree a plus.
  • Proven leadership experience in an established, growth-oriented industrial equipment related services company/organization.
  • Prior experience overseeing/managing a multi-million-dollar business operation, segment, and/or vertical within a growing organization.
  • Prior in-depth understanding of installation, repair, and maintenance operations.
  • Strong financial & fiscal management acumen.
  • Prior experience overseeing/managing operational budgets across several Company departments.
  • Prior experience collaborating with corporate finance/accounting department providing clear and concise analysis, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written, with very strong negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to interact, motivate, and drive consensus among a variety of experience levels and audiences.
  • Exceptional project management/time management skills. Ability to manage large, diverse teams of projects and personnel to achieve/exceed goals.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute efficiently on operational goals.
  • Proficiency with relevant business and operational software (e.g., ERP systems, project management tools).
