Our Client is a global real estate investment management firm with five offices across Europe, Asia, and North America. Our Client was established in 2002 to provide growth and/or restructuring capital to leading sector-focused public and private real estate companies. Their strength lies in identifying a catalyst for unlocking asset and enterprise value and tailoring investments accordingly. Key to this approach is our Client’s core philosophy of focusing on downside protection while retaining upside potential.

Position Summary

Our Client is seeking to hire an Associate with the Portfolio Management team located in the Washington, DC office. The primary responsibilities will involve supporting the Vice President in the tasks outlined below.

Position Responsibilities

  • Financial Modeling: the candidates will be expected to prepare and update financial models related to funds, real estate investments (including both operating assets and development projects), and operating companies.
  • Business Plans: Our Client invests in portfolio companies which prepare their own business plans. However, Our Client may have plans that differ from those of the management teams, and the candidates will be expected to help critically evaluate management’s plans and our Client’s alternatives.
  • Reporting: the candidates will be expected to support both internal and external reporting on portfolio companies and investment funds.
  • Transactions: Our Client is presented with a variety of investment opportunities through its portfolio companies. The candidates will support the acquisitions and dispositions of investments in the Client’s funds and evaluate how select transactions impact the Client’s investments in portfolio companies.

Requirements

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in real estate investment, investment banking, or similar roles.
  • Education: bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Financial Modeling – candidates must have a strong background in the preparation of Microsoft Excel based financial models. Ideally in both real estate investments and operating companies.
  • Presentation – candidates must be able to work in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to prepare internal and external reports.
  • Critical Thinking – candidates must be able to understand complex legal structures and evaluate the pros and cons of decisions that our Client will face for different entitiesin its structures.
  • Communication – candidates will be expected to effectively convey information between Client, external investors, and management teams of Client’s portfolio companies.
  • Attention to Detail – candidates will need to be detail-oriented in both the evaluation of investment decisions and preparation of materials.
  • Organization – candidates will be required to track their progress on various assignments and manage a variety of deadlines across workstreams. Additionally, candidates will be required to maintain organized files, models, and reports.
