Chief Financial Officer

Position Overview
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key member of the leadership team and is responsible for all accounting/reporting, financial planning/analysis, tax planning, cash, and risk management of a privately held real estate family office. The office manages a passive investment portfolio alongside personal assets across multiple LLCs, trusts, and investment entities. The CFO partners closely with family/ownership to preserve family wealth, evaluate new investment opportunities, and support long-term strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the family/ownership by developing and executing financial strategies aligned with the family’s investment objectives.
  • Lead & manage all day-to-day financial/accounting operations across the family office structure, including multiple LLC’s, trusts, and investment entities.

  • Prepare & review all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, and detailed expense reports/analyses.

  • Closely monitor all cash flow and liquidity. Provide & interpret financial modeling/investment analysis for all major family capital allocation decisions.

  • Develop, manage, and maintain new and/or long-standing relationships with banks, lenders, and institutional partners/investors. Lead loan negotiation/agreements, refinancings, and credit facilities.

  • Optimize capital structure for all financing initiatives. Guide family office in multi-generation succession/wealth preservation strategies.

  • Manage & coordinate with external tax accountants on the preparation and timely filing of returns for individuals & entities. Compile/organize all annual tax documents and prepare supporting schedules, as needed.

  • Monitor & analyze passive investments, interact directly with investment managers; review reports and prepare summary analyses/memoranda for Principals.

  • Oversee financial aspects of all personal residences, including mortgage/debt administration and refinancing. Manage all taxes and insurance payments accordingly.

  • Support family members on investment, financial, and charitable decisions with relevant data, analysis, and guidance/recommendations. 

Key Qualifications

  • Undergraduate/bachelor’s degree required. Degree in accounting, finance, economics, and/or other business-related discipline strongly preferred. CPA designation.

  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of progressive finance/accounting leadership positions with sophisticated commercial real estate platforms/organizations. Prior family office exposure a plus.

  • Very strong control orientation with exposure to a broad financial skillset (e.g., FP&A, treasury, capital markets, etc.)

  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to respond quickly and efficiently to many different competing tasks and requests.

  • High integrity, exceptional judgement, with proven ability in gaining consensus among many different parties.

  • Self-starter who can work independently with little direction – very resourceful. Excellent team-orientation as well.
