Development Manager/Director

Position Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Real Estate Development Manager/Director to lead LIHTC-financed multifamily development projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. This role encompasses responsibilities from project inception to turnover to asset and property management. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in multifamily development, with demonstrated expertise in the entitlements process, project management, and a strong understanding of Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) financing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to a team of development professionals with oversight for multiple concurrent projects.
  • Oversee the entire development process for multifamily projects, from initial site assessment and entitlements through construction completion and final delivery.
  • Lead the entitlements process, including zoning applications, environmental reviews, public hearings, and community engagement. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Interview and hire design, engineering, land-use, and any other project consultants. Negotiate and manage contracts with third-party consultants.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure project goals are met and timelines are adhered to.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to develop project budgets, financial models, and funding strategies. Leverage LIHTC and other financing mechanisms to optimize project funding.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local government officials, community organizations, and stakeholders to facilitate project approval and support.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies throughout the development process.
  • Ensure high standards of quality and sustainability in all aspects of development, adhering to company values and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Urban Planning, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in multifamily real estate development, with a focus on the entitlements process.
  • Exposure to LIHTC financing and a strong understanding of affordable housing development preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of local zoning and land use regulations.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in project management software and financial modeling tools
