Financial Controller

Position Summary:

As the Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities for the company, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintaining financial integrity. You will manage the accounting team (internal and/or external), drive efficient financial operations, and collaborate closely with senior management on strategic decision-making. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of the company’s accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including profit and loss reports, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Provide detailed financial analysis and insights to the CFO, CEO, and leadership team to support decision-making.
  • Manage the budgeting and forecasting process, providing variance analysis and financial projections.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Develop and implement internal control policies to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
  • Coordinate and oversee external audits, tax filings, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the accounting for real estate development projects, including cost tracking, project-level profitability analysis, and tracking development budgets.
  • Monitor and report on project cash flows and funding needs, including interactions with investors, lenders, and other stakeholders.
  • Work closely with project managers to ensure timely and accurate recording of construction costs, soft costs, and capital expenditures.
  • Identify and implement best practices to improve financial processes and increase operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate and recommend financial systems and software solutions that align with the company’s needs and growth trajectory.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 1 year in a Controller or similar managerial role (experience in real estate development is highly desirable).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and real estate development accounting.
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with QuickBooks, Yardi, or similar real estate management software is a plus.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and team management experience.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and handle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
