Corporate/Financial Controller
Our client, is an entrepreneurial and growing Real Estate and infrastructure investment company based in Washington D.C. and owned by a European Real Estate Group with over 70 years of experience developing and constructing industrial, data center, commercial, multifamily and mixed-use projects. They are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Financial Controller to oversee and manage the financial operations of their US real estate company. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance, ensuring the company’s financial health and growth. This role requires a deep understanding of real estate financial management, investment analysis, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management:
- Oversee daily financial operations, including cash flow management, accounts payable/receivable, and general ledger activities.
- Assist in planning for the monthly expenses, payroll and 401(k) contributions.
- QuickBooks reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with real estate industry standards.
- Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
2. Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Develop and manage the company’s annual budget and forecasts.
- Monitor and report on budget performance, company’s capital structure and provide recommendations for adjustments.
- Perform variance analysis and ensure financial objectives are met.
3. Financial Reporting & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax filings and financial disclosures.
- Manage internal controls and implement best practices to safeguard company assets.
4. Real Estate Investment Analysis:
- Analyze and report on the financial performance of real estate investments, including ROI, IRR, and other key metrics.
- Provide financial insights and support to the acquisition, development, and sales teams.
- Evaluate potential investment opportunities, conducting financial due diligence and risk analysis.
5. Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to support strategic initiatives and long-term growth objectives.
- Participate in the development of financial models for new business ventures or property developments.
- Provide insights and recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA required.
- 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a financial management role within the real estate industry.
- Strong knowledge of real estate financial structures, investment analysis, and accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI) and financial modeling tools (e.g., Excel).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with real estate development, property management, or investment firms.
- Strong leadership abilities and experience managing a finance team.
- Knowledge of REITs and other real estate investment vehicles.
